7th/8th Grade Art
7th and 8th Grade Art students began working on their Illuminated Letter Project. Medieval Illuminated manuscripts are the inspiration for this project. Students learned about their history, characteristics and the painstaking steps to create them. Watch the video below to see how they were created! Students also learned about communicating visually through their artwork. The last day to work on this project in class is Wednesday 4/19. This project is officially due Wednesday 4/25. 6th grade students were very creative making their Illustrated Name Tags this week. Students learned how to communicate something about themselves through their artwork. The last day to work on this project in class is Tuesday 4/18. This project is due 4/25. More can be found HERE.

Be sure to ask your students what they learned and made in art class this week! 7th/8th grade7th and 8th grade Art students have been very busy finishing up projects! This week they finished glazing their Celtic tiles and completed a written reflection. The tiles have been fired in the kiln and will be graded and returned by the end of next week. On Thursday students began painting their Egyptian canopic jars. This project will be due next Tuesday. Friday March 31 is the last day of the quarter. All missing work is due Thursday 3/30. 6th Grade6th Grade art class learned proper glazing techniques this week. They glazed their clay owls and clay pots. Their owls have been fired in the kiln and their work will be returned by Friday of next week. Students also began weaving this week. They learned how to create a loom as well as tabby and twill weaving techniques. This will be our last project as the quarter ends next Friday. 7th/8th Grade7th/8th Grade 3D Art students created clay Egyptian canopic jars. They used the coil building technique to create the jar and pinch and sculpture techniques to created the head of the jar. Canopic jars were part of the ancient Egyptian mummification process. Students also learned to write their names in hieroglyphics. To learn more about this project click HERE. Students will glaze their Celtic tiles next week. We had a guest teacher in the Art room this week. Mrs. Klatt is from Wayne State's Art Education program. She is studying to be an art teacher. She taught student the coil building technique to create clay coil pots inspired by African Art. Next week students will glaze their owls and the coil pots. 7th/8th Grade7th/8th Grade students have been creating clay tiles. This project is inspired by Celtic Art. Click HERE to learn more about this project. When students are working with the clay the is wet. When clay is bone dry it will be fired in the kiln. Once the clay has been fired, students will glaze their tiles. This will be in about a week. Next week students will be creating clay fish. Click HERE to learn more about this project. Students were required to sign a clay contract before working with wet clay. Click HERE to read our clay contract. 6th Grade ArtThis week 6th grade students learned the steps for drawing a room using the one point perspective technique. They are creating room drawings. Click HERE to learn more about this project. Monday will be the last in class work day. The final project is due Monday 3/13.
Next week students will begin working with clay. It is very important that students be at school on clay days as the clay dries quickly. Click HERE to see the clay projects they will be creating. Students used the paper mache technique to create their work. All students painted their artwork this week. Students used the paint safely and responsibly. Today was the last day to work on this project. This project is officially due Friday 3/3. More info about this project can be HERE Next week students will begin working with clay! It is very important that students are present when working with clay because it dries out quickly. They will be creating Celtic tiles. Click HERE to learn more about this project. Students will not have a project grade in Powerschool until after mid marking. 6th Grade Art6th grade art students have continued learning about the Elements of Art. This week we focused on the element of color. They used the primary, secondary, warm and cool colors in their Mirror Image Project. Students used oil pastels to create their work. This week students have began the paper mache process. Our goal is to be finished with paper mache by Friday. That way they can paint their work after winter break. For their 1st project, 6th grade students were very creative when making their Illustrated Name Tags ! This project is due Thursday 2/16. More info about this project can be found HERE. Currently students have began learning about the Elements of Art- line, shape, color, texture, value, and space. They read a Scholastic Art magazine article and then practiced identifying the elements in famous works of art. This week students will be focusing on the elements of line and shape to create a mirror image . 6th Grade ArtThis week 6th grade students worked independently using the one point perspective technique to create their room drawings. Friday 2was the last in class work day. The final project is due Wednesday 12/21. On Friday, 6th grade students learned about printmaking. Next week they will create relief prints from Styrofoam plates. Students will create multiple images of snowflakes in this way. This week they began the paper mache process. Students were very focused and used the paper mache safely and responsibly. They will continue working on this project next week.
