It was a great week! The big news this week was that all class visited the Detroit Institute of Arts on Tuesday! We had a blast! The students were excellent! They did an awesome job representing Middle School East! I'm very proud of them! Not only did students have the opportunity so see famous artwork from around the world but they also viewed the Offrendas exhibit which celebrates the Mexican Day of the Dead. 7th and 8th grader did some drawing in the galleries and the 6th graders discussed the Native American Art. Be sure to ask your student about their trip!
6th grade6th grade art classes have been working with clay! They first learned the pinch technique to create clay monsters. Then they used the coil building technique to create clay coil pots. Click HERE to learn more about these projects. 7/8 grade 2D art students have been practicing drawing facial features this week. They first learned the basics of drawing the nose, lips and eyes. Then they learned how to draw their own facial features using a grid. This has been challenging for students but they have done an outstanding job! I'm so proud of them! Next week they will put it all together and draw their own self portrait.
7h/8th 2d 7th and 8th grade 2D art students have been drawing from observation. This week they did a still life drawing. A still life is an arrangement of inanimate objects. Students started by drawing the contour of the objects and then added value. 6th artThis week in sixth grade art students worked on their perspective room drawings. At the end of the week students began the clay unit. They created clay monsters. They did an excellent job using art supplies safely and responsibly.
