7/8 grade art7th/8th grade art students have been learning about value. Students used shading and layers to create an abstract work of art. On friday students used value and color to create mini optical illusions. Students’ Identity Illustration project is entered in Powerschool. They are hanging in the halls at MSE. Mid marking grades will be ready on Tuesday. 6th art6th graders have been learning to create mirror images in their artwork. They looked at the artwork of Peter Max and read about how he uses color in his work.
Student got to use oil pastels when adding color to their mirror images. Powerschool is up to date. Be sure check your students grade on Tuesday for midmarking. 6th Gradeart 6th graders have been working hard at "BEING AWESOME!" This is our class motto this year. Last Friday was the last day to work on their Illustrated Name Tag project. This project is due no later than Friday 9/21. For more info about this project click HERE. Students are now learning about the Elements of Art. This week we are focusing on line, shape, color and value. Students are looking at famous works of and art identifying these elements. 7/8 art7th and 8th Grade Art students began the year working on their Illuminated Letter Project. Students learned about Medieval Illuminated manuscripts. They also learned about communicating visually through their artwork. This project is due Tuesday 9/25. This week students began learning about Value. Students read about the photographic work of artist Ansel Adams. They also did a mini photography project for fun. Be sure to ask your student what they learned and made in art class this week! 6th GradeThis week 6th grade has been glazing. They did a great job at using glaze safely and responsibly. Now that their clay owls and bowls have been glazed, I will fire them again in the kiln on Monday. After that I will grade them. My goal is to have all clay work graded and returned by next Friday.
Midmarking grades are due in Powerschool early next week. Be sure to check your student's grade in art. They have only have one project in the grade book because they have been working on clay projects which take weeks to complete. 6th grade6th grade art classes have been working with clay! They will learn about the pueblo tradition of pottery and design patterns inspired by Southwest Native American traditional pottery patterns later this week . 6th grade students created Illustrated Name Tags the 1st week of the qaurter. These will be hanging in the hallway at MSE. Grades will be posted on Powerschool by 2/16 for this project. 7th 8th Grade7th/8th graders have completed all their clay projects for the quarter! They did an outstanding job! Your student should have brought home a vase and clay dish. The grades are entered in powerschool. This week students have been weaving. They are creating to small woven baskets. These will be due Wednesday next week. All late work is due Wednesday next week. The quarter ends Thursday 1/25. Please be sure to check Powerschool to see your students schedule for 3rd quarter. 6th grade6th graders finished with clay for the year. They created clay owls and clay bowls. The owls have been returned to your students. I will return the bowls to 4th hour on Tuesday of next week. 6th hour students should have their bowls.

Please be sure to check Powerschool to see your students schedule for 3rd quarter. 7th 8th 3D ArtLast week 7th/8th graders finished their paper mache letters. They worked very hard and they turned out awesome! I was impressed at the creative ways they painted their letters. More info about this project can be found HERE. Grades will be posted by the end of the day today. This week students began working with clay. They looked at the ceramic art of Pablo Picasso to create vases. Students used a template to help shape their vase. More info about this project can be found HERE. The wet clay due date for this project is today. I will fire the vases in the kiln when we return from break. Students will continue working with wet clay next week. 6th GradeThis week 6th grade students learned the one point perspective drawing technique. They are learning to draw a room. We practiced 3 times together as a class. On Friday they worked independently using the one point perspective technique to create their room drawings. Tuesday will be the last in class work day. The final project is due Tuesday 12/14.
Next week Wednesday students will begin working with clay. It is very important that students are present on days when we work with clay. Students also began our unit on the elements of art. Students read a Scholastic Art magazine article on Wednesday and discussed famous works of art. 7th 8th Grade7th/8th grade students have been learning about the art of Robert Indiana. Students constructed their letter armatures inspired by Indiana's Love sculpture. Students began the paper mache process. They used two layers of newspaper and the final layer is paper towel. 7th/8th Grade ArtThis week students learned about Art Room Procedures. If you would like to see our classroom procedures click HERE to watch our procedure movies. Students also discussed how they could be "BE AWESOME" in the art room. This is our class motto this year. Be sure to ask your student how they plan to be awesome in art! Students began learning about Robert Indiana's, Love sculpture. This very famous work of art will be the inspiration for our first project. Students will be creating paper mache letters. Please check your students grades in Powerschool for any missing work. All late work is due Wednesday. Students began a watercolor project this week. They learned 5 different watercolor techniques and experimented with these in a work of art. This last project is abstract art. Students are encouraged to explore the material creatively and just have fun! This project will be due next Tuesday. 6th grade6th grade students glazed their clay owls and clay bowls this week. See the picture below. They learned how to safely and properly use glaze. Their pieces are firing in kiln right now! (it is currently 1444 degrees and climbing!) I hope to have these graded and in Powerschool by Tuesday of next week.
