7th/8th Grade Make Digital Identity Collages 7th/8th Graders jumped right into making art. It is my goal this year to integrate more technology into the art room this year. To reach this goal, I tried a new project with students, Digital Identity Collage. Students were asked to bring mobile devices to class for this assignments. I am pleased to say that students used their devices responsibly. Students were asked to take photographs of things that represent who they are. Some students do not have mobile devices and therefore used Google images. They were then asked to use an app/website to make a collage of their images. Below are a few finished collages. More examples of their work can be found on the Digital Identity Collage page. Students also began working with clay on Friday. They are creating face vases inspired by Picasso's ceramic work. Please see Picasso Face Vase page to example of past student work. 6th Graders Learn Art Room Procedures A middle school art room runs different than an elementary classroom. In a middle school classroom students are expected to be more independent. For this reason, I like to spend some time going over the art room procedures. I have found that when students know procedures they are more able to work independently. 6th grade students created procedure manuals this week and watched short videos about what the procedures look like in the art room. These videos are new this quarter and were made them with the help of my first quarter students. One of the videos they watched is featured below. To watch all video see theArt Room Procedures page. 6th graders also began their Illustrated Name Tag project. Directions for this project can be found on the Assignments page under the6th Grade Tab above. If you read this blog post please a comment with your thoughts below!
