What You Need to Know About 6th Grade Computer Class
In this 10 week computer class, we will focus on the proper skills needed to type on the keyboard. This means proper posture in the chair, using all of the fingers to type and not looking at the keyboard. After the keyboarding lessons, we will practice word processing skills.
Grading/Assessment:
Students will be evaluated through lesson completion and typing tests given. If time permits, students will learn word processing skills and internet search skills.
Grades will be determined by the number of words typed as well as accuracy. The final grade will be determined through points earned from a combination of the above and any projects assigned. Please refer to your child’s progress/grade sheet attached to their class folder. This sheet will list the lessons completed, and the number of words per minute/accuracy for their tests. This will give you a good indicator of their daily progress.
Class Participation/Expectations:
Class Participation means taking an active role in learning. Students are expected to bring required materials (folder, pencil, and agenda) to class. Failure to do so will result in a tardy to return to their locker. Three tardies will result in a detention which is a school policy.
Students will be expected to SOAR in the computer lab, meaning what our school rules look like in the computer lab. Click HERE for more information for it means to SOAR in the computer lab and please review this info with your student. Failure to follow these expectations in the lab may result in loss of computer/internet privileges, referral to the office, or permanent loss of computer access. Students' citizenship grade will be based on their if they exhibit soar behavior.
On Personal Mobile Devices...
Students are not to use or bring cell phones to class unless Mrs. Winters has asked students to do so for a specific learning activity. There may be days when Mrs. Winters will ask students to bring their mobile device such as a smart phone, Kindle Fire, iPad ect. to class. These devices are to be used ONLY for learning purposes. They are not to be used for texting, social media, taking photos, checking emails, posting, recording video or any activity other than the one outlined by Mrs. Winters. Students are never to photograph/record Mrs. Winters or any student and post it to internet. Tablets may be used for reading, but students must inform Mrs. Winters when using the device and it must be used ONLY for reading.
Weekly Agenda
Every Monday I will post what will be covered in class for the whole week by purpose, activity, and homework (PAH). Students will write this information in your agenda book. If students are absent it is their responsibility to fill out your agenda. Please see teacher if you do not understand the information you have missed. The last half hour of class on Friday will be used for catch up. Students may also ask for an academic time pass.
