7th/8th GradeThis week we continued our Big Drawing Unit. Students drew a still life, which is an arrangement of inanimate objects. They first looked at famous still life drawings and paintings and analyzed how the artists created space in their work. Then they practiced creating space in their own work by overlapping, using proportion and creating hierarchy (drawing what is close big and what is small far away). I was blown away with students dedication and focus this week! Keep it up Eagles! Shoe drawings are due Monday! More info on this project can be found here. See excellent examples below! 6th grade6th grade art classes worked with clay this week. They first learned the pinch technique to create clay owls. Then they used the coil building technique to create clay coil pots.
Next week they will learn about the pueblo tradition of pottery and design patterns inspired by Southwest Native American traditional pottery patterns . They will also glaze their owls and coil pots. Last week 6th grade students learned how to use the element of space in their artwork. They practiced the steps for drawing a room in perspective. They worked independently using the one point perspective technique to create their final room drawings. Click HERE to learn more about this project. This project is due Monday 5/22.
